38th INDIAN  LABOUR CONFERENCE
 held at New Delhi on September 28-29, 2002 at Vigyan Bhawan

The 38th Session of the Indian Labour Conference was held on 28-29 September 2002 (Saturday & Sunday) at New Delhi under the Chairmanship of Union Labour Minister.  The Conference was  inaugurated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister at 11.00 a.m. on Saturday the 28th September 2002 in the Plenary (Main) Hall, Vigyan  Bhavan, New Delhi. The following items have been included in the agenda for the Conference.

  • Impact of Globalization on Indian economy particularly on Employment and how to meet the challenges.

  • Social Safety Net.

  • Disinvestment policy of the Government.

  • Problems and challenges being faced by Small Scale Industries and their remedies.

  • Report of the Second National Commission on Labour

In accordance with the programme finalised for the Conference, the Conference will split into the following four Committees (one Committee for each of the four items mentioned at S.No.(i) to (iv) above) immediately after the inaugural session on 28th September 2002:

All the four Committee met concurrently in different Committee Rooms at Vigyan Bhavan and finalise conclusions on each of these four items.

        On 29.9.2002 (Sunday), the Conference  continued at the Convention Hall, Hotel Ashok and began at 0930 hrs. From 0930 hrs. to 1030 hrs., the conclusions of each of the four Committees  presented for adoption by the Plenary Session of the Conference.  Thereafter, the Conference discussed the Item (V) relating to the Recommendations of the Second National Commission on Labour till 1600 hrs.
