Brief note about the Indo-EU Joint Seminar on “Skills Development, Training and Employment”.

 

            Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Commission on 27th November 2006 in New Delhi to strengthen dialogue and exchange on employment and social affairs issues of common interest. It provides for a frame work to exchange ideas on areas such as social protection, social cohesion, labour legislation, employment, labour relations and social dialogue.

 

            As a first exchange under the new agreement – a high level joint seminar on skills, training & employment was held from 27th to 28th November 2006 in New Delhi.  The following topics were discussed in the Seminar: 

  1. "Skills and training in a globalised world economy” – The role of human capital investment, skills and training for growth and employment. [Background note, Presentations, Summary Record, C.V.s of Indian Speakers]

  2.  "Developing policies for skills and employment” – Public-private partnerships [and training of trainers]. [Background note, Presentations, Summary Record, C.V.s of Indian Speakers]

  3.  "A life-cycle approach to work” – Policies to promote life-long learning and active ageing and the role of social partners. [Background note, Presentations, Summary Record, C.V.s of Indian Speakers]

  4.  "Certification of skills and recognition of qualifications” – Benchmark standards, skill upgrading and labour-market oriented vocational training. [Background note, Presentations, Summary Record, C.V.s of Indian Speakers]
