The Indian Institute of Workers Education was established in March, 1970 at Mumbai. The Institute serves as a demonstration and information centre and acts as a nucleus around which specialised schemes for training and education to labour are evolved. It also serves as a clearing house of knowledge for Regional and Sub Regional Directorates of the Board. It conducts research in developing and perfecting methods and tools of teaching.

 

  

 

Organised Sector:

The CBWE conducts training programmes for the workers engaged in Organised, Unorganised, Rural and Informal Sectors through a network of 49 Regional Directorates and 10 Sub-Regional Directorates with 4 Zonal Directorates to supervise and monitor the work of the Regional Directorates under their zones

Selected workers are trained at Regional Directorates as Worker Teachers to conduct Unit  Level Classes. Trainees are sponsored by trade unions and released by employers with full wages.
Leadership Development Courses introduced in 1984 with an objective to equip trade union activists with all sorts of skills to function effectively and to participate in different committees at the enterprise level.
Under Joint Educational Programmes the representatives of trade unions and managements come on a common platform to discuss matters on various aspects so as to create a congenial atmosphere.

A new programme on Quality
of Life for Workers and their
Spouses has launched with a view to

Worker Teachers conduct these short duration programmes at unit level on topics of interest to the workers and trade unions.

 

 

 

Unorganised Sector:-

The Board conducts camps for workers of unorganized sector since 1979 to develop awareness among them about their social and economic problems and help them organise  themselves and build up the required cadre
Camps for workers of Weaker Sections are conducted to generate
awareness among them about their rights and entitlements.

 

 

 

 

Rural Sector:-

Rural Awareness Camps focus the attention on specific needs and discuss current socio-economic problems. The trainees are exposed to new ideas and to avail of the benefits of welfare schemes.

Need based courses are also been conducted to suit the needs of the Managements and Trade Unions in the changed scenario.

Specialised Training Programmes have been designed for Women Workers, Parents of Child Labour/Child Labour and SC/ST Workers with a view to generate the desired awareness among them to know their rights and entitlements under various Labour Laws and Welfare Schemes launched by the Central /State Governments for their amelioration.
